Who we are
The Architecture Centre was founded by the architectural community in 1996, and was the UK's first architecture centre outside London. It is now part of a network of independent architecture and built environment centres across the UK.
The Centre is a registered charity and company guaranteed by shares (constituted as Bristol Centre for the Advancement of Architecture Ltd). Our funding sources include: grants and trusts; partnerships; rental and space hire; events; management of the Bristol Urban Design Forum; Friends and business membership; and sponsorship.
What is an architecture centre?
An architecture centre works for the creation of better quality neighbourhoods, buildings and public spaces across the UK.
This is achieved through:
- Participation: enabling real public engagement in architecture, the built environment and the public realm;
- Advocacy: promoting the case for architecture and design of the highest quality;
- Education: developing a greater public understanding of architecture, design and the public space.
The Architecture Centre is a founding member of the Architecture and Built Environment Centre Network (formerly Architecture Centre Network), an informal network of architecture centres across the UK.
